Weekly Update: April 16-22

Hello everyone! I am painfully aware that it is Monday and weekly updates come out on Saturdays. However, I was home for Easter break, and it completely slipped my mind until the ride back to school. So here I am typing away on my phone, the essence of panic, trying to form a coherent thought about what I read in the past week. But if you've been sitting on your couch the past two days, tears running down your face, refreshing my blog every five minutes to see if my post came out, then take heart, because despite temporarily abandoning my blog, I made a sheep cake this weekend (as pictured above). Take it as a sort of peace offering. (This recipe is literally fire though, so here's a link in case you, too, want to make a sheep cake: very tasty sheep cake.)
Before we get into my books read (or left unread) in the last week and my tbr, here's a quick update on spring: it's not here yet. Yesterday I was going to post a spring stack on Instagram, but it    was snowing, so I lost all motivation to do so. Sad times, my friends.
I also published a post this past Thursday about my favorite tropes. I had loads of fun writing it, so check it out if you feel so inclined. If there are any other bookish topics you'd like me to cover, feel free to shoot me an email (gurlaffereads@gmail.com) or DM me on Instagram (@gurlaffereads).
As far as books go, I think you'll all be happy to hear that I've finally DNFed Dune because it was due at the library. It honestly felt like a ten pound weight off my shoulders, and since I returned it I've been speeding through Winter. I might try tackling it this summer.
Next on the agenda is a ~very exciting~ tbr for this upcoming/currently-occuring week. I've reorganized my reading schedule for the next couple weeks to factor in Fake ACT Testing (definitely an official term) and Final Exam Horror Week, so a few things have changed.
  • Winter by Marissa Meyer
    • I was planning to finish this one two-ish days ago, but I didn't really factor in Easter break so here I am still reading it. However, I'm honestly so in love with this book. It's by far the best of the Lunar Chronicles, so keep your eyes peeled for a raving review.
  • The Sunken City by Emma V. R. Noyes
    • I received this as an ARC. I just began reading it yesterday, and I have some high hopes, folks. We've got a female main character with something to prove AND pirates. Plus, the cover is absolutely gorgeous.
  • Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury OR Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
    • Ideally I'll be reading Fahrenheit 451 this week and Six of Crows next week but that all depends on whether or not I can get Fahrenheit 451 from the library soon enough. I'm honestly excited for both, so there'll be no hard feelings either way.
Besides reviews for those (hopefully), I will also be putting out a blog post about my favorite authors on Thursday. On a more exciting note, next week Monday I'll be releasing information in an Instagram post about a book challenge for May!
Sending good vibes, happy thoughts, and chapters that don't end in cliffhangers!
Love,
Gurlaffe
