Monthly Recap: May 2022
Hello everybody and happy June! Things are getting warm and beautiful outside, and the air conditioning at my house is broken. *screech*
Anywhosies, May was a bit of a disaster when it comes to reading, and the only book that I actually finished was Lord of the Flies. (I blame finals and moving home for the summer.) I didn't write a review on it because by the time I was actually available to write a review, it was a week after I'd finished reading it. I also talked a lot about finishing Anna Karenina, but, shocker, I still haven't finished reading it. IT'S ALL GOOD THOUGH because June is going to be wonderful.
With all the sad non-reading talk out of the way, let's get into my June hopefuls! (Don't worry, I will be featuring them on Instagram within the next few days.) I decided that this summer I'm going to focus on my physical tbr, or books that I already own but haven't read yet. This comes with the fact that I simply must hold myself accountable in order to combat the whole no-library-due-date deal.
- Carrying the Fire by Michael Collins
- Ack! I'm loving this book so far. It was technically a May book, but I've got a bit until I finish it, so I'll probably stick it under June.
- The Rose (volumes 1 and 2) by PD Alleva
- I received these as an ARC a few weeks ago, and I'm really excited to read them. The series' concept is pretty interesting.
- The Buddha in the Attic by Julie Otsuka
- I picked this book out for AAPI Heritage Month and ended up not getting to it due to all the craziness. It's relatively short, but the cover is beautiful in my opinion and I can't wait to get to it.
- Goodbye, Vitamin by Rachel Khong
- Another book with a cover that I'm obsessed with. I understand that it covers some deeper topics, and I'm looking forward to reviewing it here.
- Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng
- I ordered this off Thriftbooks, and it unfortunately came with a big rip in the cover. :/ I did get a refund though. I've heard good things about the author, so it's another highly-anticipated read.
- The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas
- Thanks, bookstagram. *annoyed but happy eyeroll* Honestly, though, I have high hopes for this book. Practically the whole internet has read it, and even if it's awful, the cover is still cute.
- Prodigy by Marie Lu
- I'm stoked to dive back into the Legend trilogy with this book! I've read like the first 20 pages, but I'll probably go back and review them since it was so long ago.
Ultimately, I'm trying to overcome my sucky May reading slump with some fresh new reads (and hopefully finishing Anna Karenina). The final goal, or maybe reward, is to get these books out of the way and dive into the Crescent City series (Sarah J. Maas) in July.
I'm hoping you all had a wonderful May! Stay safe, stay healthy, and keep reading.
Sending happy thoughts, good vibes, and chapters that don't end in cliffhangers!
Love,
Gurlaffe
