Monthly Recap: June 2022
Hello friends! It's July 4th, and it just struck me that I never actually wrapped up my June reads. *awkward smile with teeth*
It was a little bit of a rough month considering how busy I was, but I managed to get in two of the books I wanted to read for the month. (They were originally supposed to be read during May, but you win some you lose some. *shrug*)
- The Buddha in the Attic by Julie Otsuka
- This book was absolutely amazing! It's written beautifully, and I learned a ton from it. It's based on the lives of Japanese "picture brides" that came from Japan to America in order to marry men they had been matched with. Here's my full review. Rating: 5/5
- Goodbye, Vitamin by Rachel Khong
- I just wrote my review for this yesterday, but I finished it a while ago. This book was a super sweet, but not sugarcoated, story about a main character's father's struggle with Alzheimer's. I really enjoyed it! Here's my full review. Rating: 4/5
This is definitely less than I wanted to finish in June, but I'm still happy about what I was able to do. My July tbr is a little ambitious as well. As soon as I finish up Everything I Never Told You and The Spanish Love Deception from June, I'll be getting to some books I've been looking forward to for a while!
- Prodigy by Marie Lu
- Stoked to get back into the Legend trilogy. However, when I was flipping through this, I noticed that the font switches to this awful blue every other chapter. That'll be annoying.
- Meara by Anya Wilde
- I received this contemporary fantasy romance as an ARC a week or so ago, and I have pretty high hopes for it. I'm definitely looking forward to getting back into ARCs.
- The Cousins by Karen M. McManus
- I'm SO EXCITED to read this it's absolutely ridiculous. I love a good Karen M. McManus mystery.
- The Love Hypothesis by Allie Hazelwood
- I feel like this was trending on bookstagram eons ago and I'm just now getting to it... It'll be a nice fluffy romance to break up the month before I start Crescent City, though.
If all goes well, I will be able to start Crescent City before the end of the month. You probably know that on this blog, we are SJM fans, so you can imagine my excitement at starting this new-ish series. When I get through my physical tbr I think I'm going to look into rereading the ACOTAR and Throne of Glass series'... I never actually finished Throne of Glass when I first read it at the ripe age of 11, so this is kind of a must-do on my tbr bucket list.
That's pretty much it for June! I can't wait to get back to you all at the end of July and see where I'm at.
Sending happy thoughts, good vibes, and chapters that don't end in cliffhangers!
Love,
Gurlaffe
